This is the view from the 9th floor of the office building where I'm temping. The atrium (?) is cylindrical and the up and down escalators bisect it. That little green square is the top of the security desk.

I am going to compile a list of the best things I hear on the phone at work (I work in a dr's office). So far, I've got:

"Do you know who I am?" [said in a condescending tone of voice by self-proclaimed VIP]

"Oh honey, you are so sweet but do you think you could give me a sooner appointment?" [said as if the patient believes that sucking up to me will result in a sooner appointment]

"I was told if I namedropped __________ I could get in sooner." [my response: "Who?"]

Peter: "...I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means, that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Dr. Swanson: "What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?"

Peter: "Yeah."

Dr. Swanson: "Wow, that's messed up."

My job sucks. It's gotten to the point where it's like that scene in Office Space where Peter's talking to the hypnotist and he tells him that every day is worse than the day before, and the doctor asks him if today is the worst day of his life, and when Peter answers yes, the doctor's all like, wow that's fucked up [2:50]. I mean, I know that there are far worse jobs out there, but even knowing that.. my job makes me so unhappy. And, when your 8-hour day job sucks, that's like saying half your waking life sucks. And I don't want half my life to suck. So, I am shooting for a quitting date of June 22. That will make it exactly 4 years since I've started working there... how time flies.

I'm starting to realize that I should probably start to grow up. In a few years I won't be able to blame anything on my quarter-life crisis. Egads!
