2007 shall be the year I get my life back on track! Or perhaps more accurately, I will get it on a track for the first time in my aimless life. Gulp.
- spend less/save more
- eat less/exercise more
- cut down on sugary drinks (fare thee well, Coke!)
- write (and send) more letters
- actually read all the books I've accumulated over the past few years
- be a better person/friend/daughter
- organize massive bags/boxes full of photos
- organize massive bags/boxes full of letters
- take better care of myself (health-wise)
- enjoy (new) music again
- watch more (good) films
Happy Holidays everybody! and here's to an awesome 2007.
Mika took me to see Joanna Newsom tonight and I have to say I rather enjoyed the concert. I wasn't sure what to expect because she sometimes does this weird thing with her voice but I thought she was really good tonight. And it was nice to see a harpist take center stage.
The other day I was at Virgin and I found this cd that was released by 4AD and I knew nothing about him but for some reason I was really curious... I mean, with a nerdy title like IBM 1401, A User's Manual, and it's on 4AD??? it sounded fabulous. and I'm listening to some of his stuff on his website and it's pretty good. I think it is time for me to finish weeding out my cd collection and turn stuff in for some store credit at Amoeba. Iceland is definitely securing its place in my list of countries that produce my favorite music (along with the UK and Canada).
Then I got my Amazon order today of Seinfeld Season 7 and a Camera Obscura cd-- only to open the cd case and find that there is no cd. So I have to get that replaced. But I started browsing a bit on amazon and saw that Jarvis's cd is out, and now there are deluxe editions of Different Class, His 'n' Hers, and This Is Hardcore. The hefty pricetag makes me hesitate, but then again, there isn't much current music that excites me these days so who knows. AND there is a Peel Sessions cd out for Pulp AND Gene. Is it terrible that xmas is fast-approaching and I can only think of buying stuff for myself?
So because I am miserable at work these days I have been seeking solace in an old habit: internet shopping. Result:
Thanks to a sale at DDD, I got the complete series box set for $143! It was a very exciting purchase.
So somebody hadn't paid their internet bill in about half a year so they got their account canceled, had to fork over several hundred $$$ to get their account back in good standing and is now waiting for reconnect. oh well, it was kind of nice to come home and not feel like the first thing I need to do is turn my computer on.
Anyway, I've been having a nice time but am feeling too lazy to post about it all but I have a story I feel needs sharing.
Someone I know (name withheld for obvious reasons) recently found out that she is pregnant for the second time. Her doctor told her that she is about 5 weeks along. I guess she was curious when exactly the date of conception was, so we counted back on the calendar and figured out when it was. She then pointed out when she had her last period and we started girl-talking about menstrual cycles (I know you want to tune out, guys, but keep reading!)... and somehow she let slip that she thought eggs were released by the pituitary gland. Of course I thought she was joking but I quickly realized this was not the case. She apparently thought that the reason why the menstrual cycle lasts about a month was that it took that long for the egg to travel from the base of the brain to the uterus!!! I was flabbergasted. It was so amazing that she not only knew full well what (well maybe not what, exactly) and where the pituitary gland is, but that she had it logically worked out in her mind that that the remote location of the gland was what accounted for a 28-day cycle. omg. Anyway, the next time I see her I have to ask her how exactly she thought the egg made the long, arduous journey from head to crotch. Did she think it went through the bloodstream? maybe down the vertebral column?? perhaps she thought it had its own special tube or something???
